#BookLove Pumpkin Carving

in , by Stephanie, October 23, 2018
Last night, my family carved our Halloween pumpkins together. We created a Mickey Mouse pumpkin, a scary skull, a hanging scene and thankfully, an old-fashioned, smiling pumpkin to please Mom and Dad. As we carved, we continued thinking of carving ideas and I challenged them to think of a literacy-related pumpkin to carve for me. After coming up with a few ideas, we turned to Google and were amazed at the amazing book-themed pumpkins that were shared. Here are a few of our favorites!

Here's a wild thing! See more here!
Captain Underpants! See more here!
The Grinch! See more here!

Fly Guy! See more here!
Who knows, perhaps we will stop for another pumpkin and give one of these a try! Share your ideas in the comments and let me know if you carve one!

  2. I LOVE these! AND I think Eric Carle's Hungry Caterpillar could be a great activity for a classroom of young readers!! The students could paint the different kinds of foods on their pumpkins and the teacher could even take it one step further by drilling a small hole through each piece of food to illuminate the pumpkins with tea lights!
