I love the holidays and the human spirit that shines brightly: the time with family celebrating the little things, the generosity of giving, random acts of kindness and the traditions that bring us all together. A quick scroll through social media highlights those generous gestures, ideas for coming together as a family and celebrating with family and friends. One that stood out to me was a calendar shared by Paula Borque offering ideas for random acts of Christmas kindness. I loved it and thought how fun it would be to create a calendar that offered ways for classrooms to read, write, watch, create and connect together for joyful learning.

So, I created this December calendar to celebrate the season and inspire shared reading, writing and creating in the elementary classroom. It is my hope that you will make a copy and change it to fit your location, your students and your own personality. You will notice that I only created ideas for Monday through Friday. I thought it would be fun to create ideas for weekend learning with families together as a class based on your students’ own ideas and interests.

I hope you enjoy this and will share your new creations with me!

  1. What fun - I love this! Thank you!!

  2. This is the COOLEST! I am going to use this in my 5th grade classroom as morning work. Plus, it will be fun to share with parents on our classdojo stories app. Then, parents can see what kids are doing. I think I am going to add weekend activities for home. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

    1. I am so glad to hear this, Krista! Let me know what your students think and the new ideas they come up with!
