WSRA: Building Connected Learning Communities

by Stephanie, February 10, 2020
I was fortunate enough to attend the Wisconsin Reading Association annual conference this past week and it was such a lovely conference: connected, collaborative and focused on building our collective expertise. I presented on the power of blending teachers and technology to build learning communities and the power that technology has to broaden our communities of practice and personal learning networks. If you’d like to see the MANY links I shared, then head to my website and click on the WSRA tab. You’ll find them all there!

At the end of my session, I urged teachers to take one small step to boost their own personal learning network and focus on their own growth as an educator. I played this brief video highlighting the power of just one person to start a movement. You MUST see it.

You see, if we focus on our own growth mindset, then we lead by example, something I truly believe in. I’m not saying it is easy, but the only things we can control are our own actions and thoughts, but our model can ignite the same in others.

As many of you know, I love using QR codes to infuse reading and learning into unexpected spaces. Teachers can scan the code with their mobile device for quick and easy access to any research article, blog post, video or instructional resource that could brighten their day and their learning.

I’ve created a shared bank of these QR codes for you to borrow and use for your own coaching. Just click, scroll and choose. If you have one of your own, then please scroll to the bottom and add it! This way, we are building a shared resource together. How can you turn a bare wall into an opportunity for learning this week?
